His friends returned without him, and his mother reported him missing that night, launching a large search involving the Jackson County Sheriff&#8217;s Department, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the United Cajun Navy.<br \/>\nOn July 6, a park ranger found a body matching Wells&#8217;s description in the water near Horn Island. His mother, Christine Wonsley, confirmed his death on Facebook, calling him &quot;a special soul&quot; who was &quot;always willing to cheer and uplift others.&quot;<br \/>\nInvestigators suspect Wells drowned and say there is currently no evidence a crime occurred, though the investigation remains active. His football programs at both schools remembered him as a humble, well-respected teammate.
