Reynolds County, Iron County, and Crawford County (where Lesterville, Annapolis, Centerville, Ellington, and Davisville are located) are all part of the Ozark Highlands\/Ozark Foothills region of southeastern Missouri. So this wasn&#8217;t a separate event \u2014 it&#8217;s the same flood, and it did hit Ozark communities directly.<br \/>\nA couple of specific details worth highlighting:<\/p>\n<p>Johnson&#8217;s Shut-Ins State Park, a well-known Ozarks tourist destination in Reynolds County, was shown underwater in the flooding.<br \/>\nCamp Taum Sauk, where the 200+ children were evacuated by Black Hawk helicopter, sits near Taum Sauk Mountain \u2014 Missouri&#8217;s highest point, also in the Ozarks.<br \/>\nThe Black River, which hit its record 28.7-foot crest, is a defining waterway of that part of the Ozark region.<\/p>\n<p>So to be precise: this was southeastern Ozarks flooding \u2014 a different sub-region than the southwestern Ozark towns (Monett, Pierce City, Neosho, Stockton, Warsaw, Bolivar) that have the well-documented sundown-town history I found. Both areas are &quot;the Ozarks&quot; broadly, but they&#8217;re geographically distinct parts of that larger region, and I don&#8217;t have a source connecting the specific racial-exclusion history to the southeastern towns that actually flooded this week.<\/p>\n<p>Want to create live streams like this?
