Source: The Founding of Kanem By Assyrian Refugees ca. 600 BCE: Documentary, Linguistic, and Archaeological Evidence (African Studies Center Boston University) 2011 A.D.
This source provides an in-depth analysis into the founding of Kanem-Bornou. This source confirms the diversity amongst the Assyrian refugees which illustrates why certain West African peoples are heterogenous. Remember, one must then account for the mixing that took place between the Assyrian refugees and native African peoples like the Bushmen.
This source can also be used to argue that “white” people in Africa are in reality “reddish” people which is common amongst certain African ethnic groups. The chronicles concerning Kanem speak nothing about the facial features of the “white” individuals so I believe it is more than fair to assume these were black with people with “reddish” skin.
