The Color of Yahusha (Jesus) | What Scripture, History & Ancient Art Reveal
Was Yahusha (Jesus) a dark-skinned man? Before the stained glass and Renaissance paintings, the Scriptures and the earliest believers preserved a very different picture. In this video we follow three lines of evidence — the Word, the body, and the image — to recover the face history tried to forget.
We open in the Book of Revelation, where the glorified Messiah is described with hair like wool and feet like burnished bronze glowing in a furnace. From there we walk through a chorus of witnesses — Daniel, Song of Solomon, Job, and Lamentations — and examine the Law of skin disease, where affliction turns the skin "white as snow," a sign that only makes sense against a dark-skinned people.
Then we turn to the visual record: the oldest surviving portrait of Yahusha at Dura-Europos, the unbroken memory kept alive in Coptic Egypt, Nubia, and Ethiopia, the Byzantine "makeover" that recast a humble Judean teacher as an imperial European king, the forged Letter of Lentulus, and the Black Madonnas that Europe never quite erased. The direction of travel is one-way — away from the original, toward the face of the ruling powers.
