Days before Argentina’s World Cup final, FIFA opened a formal investigation into racist taunts directed at streamer iShowSpeed by Argentine fans — including a fan making a monkey-like gesture toward him after Argentina’s win over Egypt, and another fan telling him in Spanish to "go cry at the zoo" during an earlier match against Cape Verde.
FIFA’s statement was unambiguous: "FIFA strongly condemns racism, hate and discrimination in all forms. These actions have no place in football, at the FIFA World Cup, or anywhere in society… anyone who acts in a manner that undermines these values is not welcome in our game."
But after Argentina’s final loss to Spain on July 19 — a match marred by a red card, a post-match confrontation involving Leandro Paredes, and Argentina’s team skipping their press conference entirely — FIFA President Gianni Infantino posted a message praising Argentina’s tournament run, with no mention of the racism investigation or the on-field incidents from the final. iShowSpeed himself has not publicly addressed either confrontation with Argentine fans.
