Puerto Rico is in the middle of one of the worst water
crises in its history — and because it’s a US territory,
mainstream media is barely covering it.
Nearly 40,000 customers lost water service in a single
weekend in June 2026. The National Guard has been
deployed to distribute drinking water. Residents are
hauling buckets up stairs. One San Juan man hasn’t had
running water for almost TWO MONTHS. Elderly residents
are being hospitalized.
The US Virgin Islands are dealing with severe drought
conditions at the same time.
In this video we break down exactly what’s happening,
why decades of government neglect caused this, what
the connection to Puerto Rico’s energy crisis is, why
the federal government’s response has been inadequate,
what this says about how America treats its territories,
and what Black and brown communities across America
should understand about what’s happening to our people
in the Caribbean right now.
