Was everyone on the planet black before Noah’s flood? The book of Enoch seems to indicate that the world before Noah’s flood was a much darker place, as far as melanin is concerned. While The Book of Enoch is not considered canon (official scripture), it was very important to the ancient Hebrews. In fact, it was so important, that they hid it among the Dead Sea Scrolls at Qumran. Let’s start by looking at the story concerning Noah’s birth:
“After a time, my son Mathusala took a wife for his son Lamech. She became pregnant by him, and brought forth a child, the flesh of which was as white as snow, and red as a rose; the hair of whose head was white like wool, and long; and whose eyes were beautiful. When he opened them, he illuminated all the house, like the sun; the whole house abounded with light. And when he was taken from the hand of the midwife, opening also his mouth, he spoke to the Lord of righteousness. Then Lamech his father was afraid of him; and flying away came to his own father Mathusala, and said, I have begotten a son, unlike to other children. He is not human; but, resembling the offspring of the angels of heaven, is of a different nature from ours, being altogether unlike to us.” – Book of Enoch 105:1-3
The Colored Elephant In The Room
These three verses in The Book of Enoch provide a glimpse into what was going on around the world at the time of Noah’s birth. In order to make this easier, we’re going to break down the information into two sections:
What The Text Says
- Noah was born with white skin.
- Noah did not look like the other humans.
- Lamech believed Noah was the son of an angel.
- Angels were having children on earth.
What The Text Implies

If Humans Weren’t White…
What color were they? The text seems to imply that pre-flood humans were people of color. Based on the location of The Garden of Eden, they were most likely brown or dark skinned people. If you still aren’t convinced that pre-flood people were people of color, Lamech’s words, “being altogether unlike to us” proves that everything about Noah was different, including his skin color.
Noah: The Black Albino
Although Noah was described as having “white skin”, we know that not only Europeans have white skin. Black people can also be born with white skin. We refer to these people as albinos. Here are a few pictures of black people with white skin:
As we can clearly see, white babies are not only born to Europeans. In fact, it is a scientific fact that black people can have white children, but white people cannot have a black child. The only way for all of the races to exist on the planet, is if they started dark, and then became lighter over time.
Enoch, Lamech, and Noah were all from the line of Seth (Adam’s third son). If they were people of color, it also indicates that Seth was a man of color, which would also make Adam a man of color.
Adam: The First Man of Color
For starters, Genesis 2:7 tells us that Adam was created from the dust of the earth. In the Mesopotamian region, where the garden was located, all of the soil is colored. However, I’ll readily admit that it isn’t a very strong argument. The strongest argument for Adam being black are the three verses above.
- If Noah was white and the other humans were not, they were likely brown or dark skinned.
- If the humans were brown or dark skinned, it would’ve been passed down from Adam.
- If brown or dark skin was passed down from Adam, it would mean that Adam was most likely brown or dark skinned.
These are reasonable conclusions based solely on the text presented. That brings us to the most controversial conclusion to where the evidence leads:
The Image of God
We are constantly bombarded with images of a white God or a white Christ, but why is that? If race doesn’t matter and God is just a spirit without race, why is he always depicted as white and not black or Arab or even Asian?
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” – Genesis 1:26-27
If God made man in his image, and after his likeness, what would that man look like? He would look like God. Many people try to downplay the appearance of God by saying that God is a spirit, which means he doesn’t have a body or color, but that’s not scriptural. That is personal belief and opinion:
Adam was a walking, talking, self portrait of the creator. This brings us back to The Book of Enoch. If the people in Noah’s time were not white, and all of the people on earth were black, what color was Adam? If Adam was created in the image of God, and Adam was a man of color, what does that say about God?

1. Every time you see the word “like”, it’s a simile… a comparison to something. The exception is the skin color. It says his skin “was the color of burned bronze”. Everything else is a comparison, but the skin color is a declarative statement. There’s no metaphor or simile to be had from Daniel or John’s description.
2. We know that burned bronze is not olive, tan, or any other color except the color of black people.
3. When you say you believe Christ looked “Middle Eastern”, are you admitting that you are INTENTIONALLY denying the Bible’s description of Christ having burned bronze skin?

4. The fact is the people weren’t all colors in Enoch. It clearly says the humans did not have white skin, and all the people with white skin were children of the angels. I didn’t make that up. That’s what the book of Enoch has said for its entire existence.
5. Adam and Eve lived in a region where black skin is beneficial and white skin leads to a high death rate from Melanoma. Based on the description of where the Garden of Eden was located, the only possible conclusion is that Eden refers to either all of Africa or a part of Africa.
6. Not all angels were described as white in the Bible. Read Isaiah and Ezekiel. The angels around God’s throne (Seraphim / Cherubim) were described as having burned bronze skin just like Christ. But the angels WERE NOT created in God’s image… mankind was. So if some angels are white, but were not created in God’s image… and Enoch describes humans as NOT white… then God is not white. Once again, we know this to be fact because Daniel’s pre birth description of Christ matches John’s post resurrection description of Christ… both of a man with burned bronze skin.
So how is it you claim to believe the Bible, while still actively denying the words of scripture? People that preach a false olive or modern “Middle Eastern” looking Christ have no grasp on actual historical events. The Middle East was named that by Europeans in the 1800s in order to separate it’s association from Africa. Europeans also dug the Suez Canal to physically separate Israel from Egypt, which is in Africa.

Paul was mistaken as an Egyptian as well, which confirms Tacitus’ (Roman historian) claim that people were debating whether or not Hebrews descended from Ethiopia or Egypt… black descendants of Ham. When Jacob died, all of Israel were mistaken for Egyptians.

I’ve studied both and I don’t find the Bible confusing at all. I find it very coherent. I’ve read many books including the Quran. I don’t put any stock in it because it was delivered to a man by an angel. The Bible has a clear warning about angels bringing another gospel.

I believe there is a verse in revelations that refutes your Galatians verse:

Literally states that an angel would deliver a GOSPEL. Certainly fits the description, this is exactly what is preached in Quran. Besides we didn’t have a problem when Gabriel visited Mary… but visit the seed of Ishmael and now there is a problem.

No you’re just uneducated on the Bible because you’re not reading it in its entirety for understanding, but cherry picking without context based on your own preconceived notions. As Far As The Creation
There is only 1 creation story. Again, lack of understanding on your part. Nothing is created in Genesis chapter 2. It starts by saying God planted a garden… planting isn’t a second creation. If you read instead of letting people tell you what stuff is, then you’ll understand. Also, if you know a shred about Hebrew, you’d know that the events in chapter 2 are linked to the 6th day of creation in Genesis 1. It’s a detailed account of that day.
No creation happens on that day EXCEPT humans. Anyone saying it’s a second creation is ignorant of even the basic things. If it’s a second creation story, please by all means tell me what was CREATED and not planted. In order for something to be planted, it had to already have been created. But we’ll wait on you to point out anything other than humans and animals (created on day 6).

And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.” – Ezekiel 9:4-6

You’re wrong for several reasons.
1. The Hebrews themselves hid the Book of Enoch along with their scriptures, but they didn’t hide the books of Adam and Eve. Probably because the books of Adam and Eve weren’t even written until centuries later.
2. If it wasn’t about color Europeans wouldn’t have spent 700 years + Billions of dollars trying to fake the race of Christ… and putting up images of some false white savior in the church. They’ve done nothing but spit in God’s face for 700 years by lying about his nation.

Outstanding work brother Fortson! I am amazed (but not surprised) at some of the comments alleging that there is no way that the Hebrews of the bible were black. All someone has to do is simply pick up their bible, put down their preconceived notions and prejudices, and read from cover to cover as one whole document. I think people of today attempt to disregard the old testament (OT), which is a bad idea, because the new testament (NT) unlocks the mysteries in the OT. For example; after the his resurrection, Jesus was on the road to Emmaus with two disciples and he provided them with a breakdown of the things concerning himself “in the OT”. “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself” (Luke 24:27). I don’t know why Jesus being black it is such a hard pill for modern Christianity to swallow, but a man that hid out among black Egyptians from the his youth till adulthood, was described as having appendages like burnt bronze, and had hair the texture of wool. People like to brush some the physical descriptions off as metaphorical, however when John the apostle was given the revelation of Jesus Christ he was told to write down everything that he “saw” and “heard”, and you cannot see and hear something that is metaphorical. John actually fell down “as dead” because of the awesome “physical” presence of Jesus in his glory, but I guess that was just an allegory or metaphor as well (sarcasm added).

Also, don’t add to God’s word. Nothing says he turned them black due to sin. That’s British-Israelism nonsense. People were EXCLUSIVELY turned white as a punishment. Gehazi and Miriam are two examples of that. Both turned white out of anger. One made God mad and the other made a prophet mad. Both cases ended in white skin.

Enoch was surprised about Noah being white with white hair and looking like an angel means noah was an albino for me – but he does not necessarily have to be a black albino.
There are white albinos who also don’t look like normal whites – with no melanin, white skin and white hair that really looks like you’d imagine an angel.
(google them: famous russian albino nastya kumarova, famous asian albino Connie Chiu – or whoever: stephen tompson, amal sofi – every race has albinos that look extraordinarily and are really white like snow and bright like an angel.)
Second of all the description of god: “His hair were white like white wool, like snow” – the wool here doesn’t refer to the structure of the hair – this correlation with the hair of blacks isn’t that old anyway but “white like wool” is in itself a metapher describing the color. Everyone knew sheep and they all had sheep. The description is a typical old color description “white like wool, like milk” – the latter just reinforces it. the description white like wool does only refer to the color of the hair not to the structure.
My point is: it all doesn’t tell us anything about “the race” of god or adam and we should just wait till we die to find out the truth about it all instead of acting as if god himself told us the truth about the world – about the history of the races. I’ll be neutral and excited and can’t wait to get told about the truth then.
Do you share this same view with people that share pics of a white Jesus? How about white movie companies that cast white Egyptians and white Hebrews, even though history shows that they were absolutely not white?
The book of Enoch is 100% clear that he was unlike any other human on earth. Furthermore, we know they were black because black people ONLY come from black people… but black people can have every color on earth from white to dark black. No other race can do that and that’s scientific fact.
The image of God is of both male and female God is the father aka man the son aka child and the holy spirit aka the wife and the spirit of unity of family. All people have this in common and are of this image and are partaking in this image. Not a single person is the image of God but a family. As always test what I say against scripture.
The Holy Spirit is NEVER presented or referred to as a female. He is specifically referred to as a he, so your example is not Biblical unless you want to try to make it a gay marriage. That is both blasphemy and false teaching.
Good point. Also, noteworthy, is – in the book of Enoch, “Wisdom” is described as “she” several times. Also, the waters beneath the earth and above the earth are described as separate – male and female.
This comment is old but Joshua your interpretation is extremely wrong I actually want to address this with a few points.
1. If you read proverbs by Solomon, he describes WISDOM as a she NOT the Holy Spirit.
2. The Holy Spirit is God, and God is never described as a Female, but as a Male. Also if you believe Jesus Christ is God (he is) you believe he is a male. There is no where in scripture that supports your views and you not posting a scripture says alot.
3. This is the kind of stuff God got angry about. Have you read about the false God they were worshiping back then in the Bible? It was called the “Queen of Heaven” worshiping a false god and elevating it.
4. Their is this weird sight that seems exactly what you believe (even though it’s false) and involves you praying to it. That is extremely dangerous because lack of understanding the scriptures and honestly adding your own words. I’ll let God’s word have the last words on this.

It doesn’t make sense that there are 2 physical descriptions of god. God is everywhere and everything, and therefor does not take the shape of a human. It wasn’t until Jesus Christ was born, was there a human form of God. So there’s god, who is ever present, there’s Jesus who is god in human form who died for our sins, and when Jesus was baptized by John god gave us the holy spirit to communicate with god.

In Genesis 18 he appears to Abraham as a man and eats with him.
God placed his hand over a cave and allowed Moses to see his back.
There are actually dozens of physical descriptions of God throughout the Old Testament.
If God made Adam in his image, what does that tell you? It tells us that God has an image.
Even if someone tries to claim Adam changed after the fall, it still doesn’t explain how Adam got hands, feet, eyes, etc. because of the fall. God does have a form, and it’s similar to humans.

Now if we use biblical scripture, scientific knowledge, and human history we can come to a conclusion that God is a black spirit being and the first man on planet earth I.e. Adam, was of black descent. The oldest fossils found of HOMO SAPIEN descent were found and based out of Africa (Ethiopia). When testing its DNA, it was found that it was also of African descent. There is no disputing this scientific fact. So if man was created for the sun and in paradise it would make sense that they were of dark color or black descent. Why? Because as we know the white man cannot stay in the sun for too long. His skin cannot soak up the sun due to his pale skin. His hair is straight and does not act as a sunblock. In fact, straight hair didn’t show up on the scientific scene until 100,000 AFTER the kinky like hair was found. This is also a scientific fact. Now, he stays in the sun for too long his skin turns pink and will burn. This is a recessive gene in their DNA. Scientifically speaking, the black man is genetically more gifted than his white counterpart; You can google this fact. God wouldn’t make a perfect human being in paradise whose skin burns when staying in the sun too long. As I said this is a recessive gene and as we know humans were perfect at one point physically, mentally, and spiritually. So it would make perfect sense that the white male and female couldn’t have been on earth first because if they were perfect, they wouldn’t have these recessive genes in their DNA.
Now, follow me here, if the Bible states that we are created in Gods likeness(Gen 1:26), which by definition means outward appearance, and science states Adam and Eve were of black descent, that would mean God is in fact black. Also Daniel 7:9 talks about the Ancient of Days aka God – ” I kept on beholding until there were thrones placed and the Ancient of Days sat down. His clothing was white just like snow, and the hair of his head was like clean wool.”
Now goto google and type in “wool” and You will see an image that resembles an elderly black mans hair…

Resembling the offspring of the angels of heaven” can easily be metaphorical, not necessarily meaning that “Angels were having children on earth”.
It’s not metaphorical. It’s a literal description that is given all over the world. The Bible mentions it all throughout Genesis 6, Numbers 13, 1 Samuel 17, 2 Peter, Jude, etc.
If Adam was made in the image of God then he would have resembled God. Revelation 1:14 says that the son of God had hair like wool and verse 15 says that his feet were like brass burned in a furnace i. e. his skin was dark. It seems to me that God is dark skinnsd.

No, it does not change my mind about Christianity at all. There is a huge difference between the teachings in the Bible and the teachings of men.
As far as the Hebrew Israelites are concerned, I think they are misguided in many of their teachings. They omit anything that contradicts their doctrine, and also embrace other doctrines that cannot be validated by scripture. Their obsession with Edomites being white doesn’t fit the Biblical text. Also, their teaching the Jews somehow became Gentiles is also against scripture. Their belief that Christ did not die for Gentiles is outright false.
None of this information changes my beliefs about either subject.
